A simple explanation of how lookup requests are proxied to providers, what limited operational data may be logged, and how data is handled behind the service.
Rubbish.day helps users look up bin and waste collection schedules from local council and waste service providers. In practice, the site mainly acts as a proxy layer between the user and the relevant provider systems so collection results can be returned in a simpler interface.
It does not require account creation and does not sell access to the service.
Rubbish.day is designed to pass lookup details through to the corresponding provider needed to answer the request. The site is not intended to build user profiles or maintain customer accounts.
However, when you use the site, the following limited operational information may still be handled or logged:
The main use of lookup information is to send the request on to the relevant council or waste provider and return the result to the user. Limited operational data may also be used to troubleshoot issues, improve search quality, understand feature usage, monitor the health and performance of the website. Optional location data, if you choose to use that feature, is used only to suggest a supported city and is not required to use the service.
Any search logs are intended for service improvement and operational support only. Rubbish.day does not use search data to build advertising profiles.
Rubbish.day retrieves collection information from external council or waste provider systems. When a lookup is performed, the address or area information needed to answer that lookup is passed on to or through the relevant provider. Those third parties may process request data under their own privacy terms. If you use the optional IP-based fallback for city suggestion, a request may also be made to an IP geolocation service for that purpose.
Google Analytics is also used to understand site usage. Analytics loading is deferred and may occur after interaction or during idle time.
Rubbish.day is not intended to store lookup data as a customer record system. Even so, search logs are currently stored on the website server in a limited local log file used for operational purposes. Those logs may include the search address, selected city, timestamp, IP address, and approximate IP-derived geolocation details used for admin reporting. Log retention may change over time as the service evolves.
Reasonable technical and operational steps are taken to protect the website and its supporting files. Examples include restricting direct public access to internal log files, using HTTPS for site access, and limiting data collection to what is necessary for the service to function and improve.
No internet-based service can guarantee absolute security. If a material security issue affecting this site is identified, appropriate remediation steps will be taken as soon as practical.
The site may use browser local storage to remember preferences such as theme, recent searches, and the last selected city. Analytics services may also use cookies or similar technologies according to their own policies.
This policy may be updated from time to time to reflect site changes, provider changes, or legal and operational requirements. The latest version published on this page applies.
